New cars have a tremendous pile of electronics that control almost every feature of the car, but a group of researchers at UC San Diego and University of Washington says that thieves are starting to hack at these very systems to gain control over the car.
A well-equipped car will have over 100 computers controlling everything from the door locks and brakes, to the starter and ignition system, but what is surprising is that many of these systems are interconnected. For example, a computer won't let the starter engage unless the driver is stepping on the brakes. The problem is that hackers are figuring out ways to hack into the system, making it much easier to steal the car without having to cut or break anything.
All cars built since 1996 already have a handy-dandy computer diagnostic port to make access easy, but you need to be inside the car to get to it. Luckily for the thieves, many cars are now adding wireless features, making it possible to launch an attack from outside the vehicle.
How to hijack sensor communications of Wireless Car
Wireless kit: The equipment used to hijack a car’s tire sensors included a laptop, a programmable radio transceiver, and a custom circuit board, which, taken together, cost around $1,500.

Hackers could "hijack" the wireless pressure sensors built into many cars' tires, researchers have found. Criminals might then track a vehicle or force its electronic control system to malfunction, the University of South Carolina and Rutgers University researchers say.
The team, which successfully hijacked two popular tire-pressure-monitoring systems (TPMS), will describe the work at the USENIX Security conference in Washington, DC, this week.
The tire-sensor attack poses little immediate risk to drivers. However, in recent months, research groups have identified other security weaknesses in vehicle electronics systems. As automakers add more powerful computers to cars, and connect those computers to critical components, in-car systems will need to be secured against hackers, experts warn.
A TPMS consists of sensors inside a car's tires that measure pressure, and a central wireless antenna--or an antenna in each wheel in more expensive vehicles. An electric control unit (ECU) picks up the signal, and a warning light on the...
CarShark Software Lets You Hack Into, Control And Kill Any Car
In the near future, you may be more worried about a hacker attack on your car than on your PC.
A group of researchers from two universities tested their hacking skills on two cars and found that they could remotely lock the brakes, the engine, and windows on a car; turn on the radio, heat, and windshield wipers; honk the horn; and change the speedometer display.
They were able to do all of that in tests on two cars of unnamed make and model by connecting a laptop to the electronic control system and controlling that computer wirelessly using a second laptop in a separate car.
The paper (PDF) will be presented by researchers at the University of Washington and the University of California at San Diego at the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy in Oakland, Calif., on Wednesday.
"Over a range of experiments, both in the lab and in road tests, we demonstrate the ability to adversarially control a wide range of automotive functions and completely ignore driver input," the paper says.
In an interview with CNET on Friday, two of the...
Hackers can remotely disable your car's brakes, create sensationalist headlines
September 5, 2010
We think you're going to be hearing a lot about this one over the next few days... or weeks. A team of researchers at the University of Washington and the University of California San Diego have determined that, with physical access to your car's ECU, a hacker could "adversarially control a wide range of automotive functions and completely ignore driver input -- including disabling the brakes, selectively braking individual wheels on demand, stopping the engine, and so on." For example, the team was able to connect a computer to a car's ODB-II port, access that computer wirelessly, and then disable the brakes in the first car while driving down the road in a separate vehicle. The conclusion is that these in-car systems have few if any safeguards in place and, with physical access, nearly anything is possible. The solution, of course, is to prevent physical access. So, if you see a hacker hanging around in your car looking all shady, or a laptop computer sitting in the footwell that totally wasn't there before, well, you know who to call.
“It’s time to introduce new course in the computer education which is ‘Hacking’ it is necessary because it can help us to spread the awareness about hacking. There are misconceptions in many minds about today’s generation lacking skills of computers.” Says Saurab Khole, presently perusing first year in Science from symbiosis college Pune.
Few clicks are sufficient to acquire each and every activity around world within seconds of time as this is an internet era. Let it be images, map, information, theory etc., search engine provides all the data and loopholes of any things you wish to know. Age group between 16-32 is attracted and much dependent on internet. They are the only victims to face demerits of internet.Today computer are the major support system to every human you may across computer with internet connections in every house. Social websites are just like planets where you get in surf through profiles if you like it then simply hack it. These websites are the major reason to enhance the performance of the hackers around. At present there is huge battle laid by the hackers of Pakistan and china towards India. On 14 and 15 august there was war between all...
Whenever anyone hears the word “HACK” 1st he will check all his present email accounts are safe.Hack is like thread to a normal person and everyone wants to stay away from hackers. They all have negative image of hackers in their mind. Hackers penetrate the firewall enters in your account steal, destroy the information or data in your account and they go, hackers should keep behind the bars this is some general idea people have in their mind about hackers. Hacking is an art. Very few talented people have this in them, and these artists are called as hackers. Hackers doesn’t go to any random persons detail n destroy them. Its obvious that the great artist will always expect a great audience for him. Hackers don’t attack on the normal people they have their respective targets set.
According to my general observation each hacker have his different story for being a hacker. The government sabotages some so they chose the path of hacking, some have interest from childhood, some wants to show the government that how much we are lacking in our security n etc.Recently majority youth of nation is diverted toward this unusual sector of hacking. The avg age of...
Iran's Cyber Army VS US, British, French Gov't Websites
August 30, 2010
An Iranian cyber group announced that it has hacked more than 1,000 important governmental websites of the US, Britain and France in protest at their support and financial aids to anti-Iran terrorist groups.
"To commemorate the Day of Campaign against Terrorism and the martyrdom anniversary of (former Iranian President Mohammad Ali) Rajayee and (his Prime Minister Mohammad Javad) Bahonar (by the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization), the group rose to protest at the inhumane measures of the supporters of terrorism, with the US and Britain standing on top of them, through a new method and hacked and changed the pages of more than 1,000 of their websites," Behrouz Kamalian, Head of the Iranian Ashiyaneh (nest) cyber group, told FNA on Monday.
If you open the hacked sites now, you can see a logo of Iran and some pictures of martyrs Rajaee and Bahonar and a bi-lingual text in Persian and English expressing our group's protest at the US, Britain and France's attitude towards terrorism, Kamalian added.
Noting that the project started on Saturday and continued until Monday morning, he reminded that the group managed to hack more than 1,000 governmental sites of the aforementioned countries, including the official website of Louisiana...

14th August The Gang Bang Started by Indian Cyber Army Against Pakistani Cyber Space
Well friends, this post is in response to an article published on news.rediff.com Cyber wars: Pak has an advantage over India. According to this, India do not have a dedicated cyber army.
Well let me make you aware about The Gang bang project. This project has been started by Indian Cyber Army on 14th August IST 5.00 AM. According to ICA members "Indian Cyber Army making this day more remember-able to them by writing a Golden page in their history."
As per The Gang bang project - Half of their Cyberspace is in the Hands of Indian Cyber army. ICA have warned them Many times to stop hacking small sites...but they din't listened Now it is our turn to made them listen No more peace deals or whatever. ICA Defacing their Half of the Cyberspace This is replay to whatever they have did by their lame tools.
